After coming to the United States from El Salvador to join her mother late in 2010, she enrolled in Mason's Early Identification Program and was an academic star at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Virginia.

Leah and Peregrine Pistone, incoming freshmen at ºÚÁÏÉç, are used to learning together. The siblings were homeschooled by their mother throughout their K-12 years. While they say they are grateful for the experience, they both are looking forward to engulfing themselves in a large university environment with diverse classmates.

The tourism and hospitality industries have been confronting increasing challenges related to both the pandemic and climate change, according to experts from ºÚÁÏÉç’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD).

Over the two past years, two ºÚÁÏÉç systems engineering senior design teams developed a tool to help two Maryland counties make complex financial decisions to reduce their CO2 emissions.

As a graduate student with intersectional racial and ethnic identities, ºÚÁÏÉç doctoral student Austin A. Deray said he believes it is his responsibility to champion the voices of his communities.

Derek Horstmeyer, who specializes in corporate finance at Mason’s School of Business, has guided about 15 students with independent research projects and then helped them get recognition for their work.

Freshmen moving into the residence halls on Wednesday, Aug. 18, marks the start of the 2021-22 academic year at ºÚÁÏÉç.

Nearly 100 Mason students presented the results of their summer multidisciplinary research and creative projects on Aug. 5-6 in a virtual celebration of student scholarship.

Mason will welcome new and returning students to the Fairfax Campus during New Student Convocation on Friday, Aug. 20. This year, two classes will be acknowledged at EagleBank Arena: the incoming Class of 2021 and the returning Class of 2020, whose official on-campus welcome was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ºÚÁÏÉç is a large and diverse school with more than 39,000 students. For incoming freshmen, that can be overwhelming. Quill Camp is an extended Orientation program that helps them navigate their transition to their new home at Mason.
